Packaging Engineer (Hybrid)

Purpose and Objectives:
In this position, the Packaging Engineer will lead the design, development, and testing of both retail and shipping packaging for all products throughout the organization. The Packaging Engineer will work with internal teams as well as international suppliers to maintain an acceptable level of product quality through the entire shipping process. A successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, have strong problem-solving skills, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive working relationship with all departments.
Essential/Specific Duties and Tasks:
- Responsible for the design, development, prototyping, and testing of packaging for new products and the maintenance tasks of packaging for existing products.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining product specifications and maintaining the accuracy of the specification database in Centric PLM.
- Create CAD and specification templates for packaging types to be later modified with specific product details
- Create and maintain CAD drawings for specific packaging configurations
- Work with manufacturing and purchasing departments to establish quality standards for products
- Develop and utilize standard product testing protocols to verify packaging performance
- Create and maintain BOMs for new and existing domestically manufactured products in SyteLine ERP.
- Provide processing support regarding product issues to import and domestic manufacturers.
- Continually investigate new materials and packaging configurations to provide Uniek with product distinction and competitive advantage.
- Work directly with the manufacturing staff, purchasing department, and outside suppliers to continue to drive the use of new materials and manufacturing methods.
- Monitor damage and defective rates in the field and implement corrective actions to ensure the lowest rate possible.
- Work closely with product engineers to ensure cost-effective methods are used to maintain product strength in conjunction with effective packaging
- Partner with the Quality department to define performance specifications and test procedures for compliance.
- Design and maintain packaging integrity, including shipping, crushability, and vibration testing.
- Perform end-of-line shipping tests to verify that packaging specifications are accurate.
Held Accountable For:
- Completing the final specification of packaging for new products on time and accurately.
- Communicating effectively the final packaging specifications to overseas vendors as well as the internal operations group.
- Ensuring that all products are designed to be manufactured in a fashion that meets all form, fit, and function requirements as well as fashion design goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in packaging engineering or mechanical engineering or 3-5 years of experience in a similar position.
- Proficient drafting and sketching skills with an emphasis on conformity to engineering drafting standards (Artios CAD preferred)
- An aptitude to understand packaging processes and materials.
- Ability to gain cooperation and results from team members.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Demonstrate a can-do attitude / perform whatever duties are needed to help the design team succeed and meet deadlines.
- Strong conceptual and creative skills.
- Ability to produce high-quality work at a fast pace.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple projects.
